Hyrox

Fitlab Lafayette HYROX Training includes all 8 of the Hyrox stations. We also include running during the workouts and programmed longer runs (6-10km)  to build endurance for this lengthy hybrid race.

ABOUT

HYROX is a global indoor fitness competition that combines running with functional workout stations, designed to test both endurance and strength in a standardized race format. It was founded in 2017 in Germany by Christian Toetzke and Olympic field hockey champion Moritz Fürste.

Each HYROX race consists of:

8 x 1 km runs, each followed by a functional workout station.
The sequence includes:

  1. 1 km run + 1 km SkiErg

  2. 1 km run + 50 m sled push

  3. 1 km run + 50 m sled pull

  4. 1 km run + 80 m burpee broad jumps

  5. 1 km run + 1 km rowing

  6. 1 km run + 200 m kettlebell farmer carry

  7. 1 km run + 100 m sandbag walking lunges

  8. 1 km run + 100 wall balls

This format remains consistent across all events, allowing athletes to compare results globally.

  • HYROX has rapidly expanded worldwide, with over 80 events scheduled in 2025 and more than 550,000 athletes expected to participate. Races are held in large indoor venues, creating a stadium-like atmosphere that allows spectators to follow the entire event.

  • HYROX offers multiple divisions to accommodate various fitness levels:

    • Open

    • Pro

    • Doubles (same or mixed gender pairs)

    • Relay (teams of four)

  • Training for HYROX emphasizes both running and functional strength. Coaches recommend focusing on interval and threshold runs, similar to half-marathon training, and incorporating "compromised running," which simulates race fatigue by mixing runs with exercises. Access to race-specific equipment is beneficial, but similar workouts—like hill sprints or dumbbell thrusters—can substitute. Understanding and practicing a strategy, including pacing and energy output management, is crucial.

Who’s it for?
